Preconception Care Print E-mail

preconception careCongratulations! Whether you’ve made the decision to start a family for the first time, are preparing for more children, or maybe you’re preparing for IVF, you’ve made the choice to create a healthier pregnancy and better outcomes for your baby.

Why is Preconception and Pregnancy Care so important?

1. Healthy Baby

All the genetic information required to create a baby is held in both the sperm and egg. Should any of this genetic coding be damaged by poor lifestyle/ dietary or stress factors, it can be improved if you work on making necessary changes at least 4 months prior to conception. Wouldn’t you want the healthiest baby you can possibly have ?

2. Healthy Pregnancy

Poor health prior to becoming pregnant can be the cause of many pregnancy failures and difficulties. Eg. gestational diabetes, miscarriage, anaemia, pre eclampsia, just to name a few. Obesity, anaemia, poor thyroid function, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, allergies and toxicity are all known preventable threats to a healthy pregnancy. Why would I want an unhealthy pregnancy ?

3. Post Natal Health

Pregnancy can be very hard work for a tired , unwell body. Having optimum health prior to giving birth will ensure you can handle the demands on a mother such as breastfeeding, sleep deprivation, looking after other children as well as ensuring a complete recovery of your own body. Who wants to have an unhappy time simply coping ? This is meant to be a special time for you and your bub.

Karen A Jones is a qualified Naturopathic Physician and Registered Nurse with over 20 yrs clinical experience in Preconception and Pregnancy care. She also has 3 beautiful children of her own.

What to expect in an Initial Consultation for Preconception Assessment?

  • Comprehensive Cellular Health Analysis: measures the 9 key biomarkers of your health, including body composition, toxicity, inflammation, biological age, amongst many others.
  • Urinary Analysis: assesses any imbalances re acidity and gastro-intestinal health (tends to be the basis of many underlying preconception issues)
  • Zinc Assessment: zinc is particularly important for healthy sperm as well as overall fertility status in males and females

As we know, 50% of infertility and poor foetal outcomes are due to poor sperm quality. It is strongly advised that both partners undertake preconception care to ensure the best outcomes for a healthy, happy baby.

On your follow-up visit a Report of Findings is provided to you and your partner as well as treatment options(if required), dietary modifications as well as any other concerns that may need to be addressed for each individual.

Consultations are covered by most Private Health Funds as well as some remedy costs.

Karen can conduct phone or Skype consultations for some follow up consults as required.
